Both share the same legendary 4JJ1 engine family, but they serve very different purposes. The mu-X is the family SUV; the D-Max is the workhorse. We break down fuel economy differences, cabin comfort, payload capacity, and the long-term service costs you should factor in before buying.

Isuzu Genuine vs Isuzu Select vs Best Value Isuzu Parts: An Honest Comparison

Not all parts are created equal, and in Kenya's market, the gap can be significant. Genuine Isuzu parts carry a manufacturer warranty and exact fitment. Quality Isuzu Select parts (aftermarket) can be a smart, cost-effective option. Best value parts have their place but require trust in the supplier. Here's how to decide what's right for each repair type.

Isuzu Service Parts 101: Filters, Belts & Fluids – What They Do and When to Change Them

Your D-Max or mu-X has three filter types, two belts that need periodic attention, and a handful of fluids that are often overlooked until something fails. This guide walks through each one in plain language: what it does, the signs it needs changing, and what happens if you ignore it too long on Kenya's roads.

Why Is My Car Overheating? A Step-by-Step Diagnosis Guide for Kenyan Roads

Overheating is one of the most common and most damaging problems on Kenya's roads, especially in Nairobi traffic. We walk through the most likely causes in order of probability: low coolant, a stuck thermostat, a failing water pump, a blocked radiator, and the more serious head gasket issue.

Rainy Season Vehicle Prep: What Every Driver in Western Kenya Should Check Before the Long Rains

The Migori and Kisumu region gets some of the heaviest rainfall in the country. Waterlogged roads, flooded crossings, and reduced visibility create conditions your vehicle needs to be ready for. This checklist covers wipers, tyres, brakes, underbody protection, and the one electrical check most drivers forget.

Real Vehicles, Real Results

Stories from our customers, from complex repairs to routine maintenance that saved the day

Toyota Land Cruiser 200 – Turbo Failure Averted Before a Long Safari

A tour operator from Kisii brought his 2016 Land Cruiser 200 in before a 10-day safari circuit. A routine inspection revealed excessive play in the turbocharger shaft, a failure waiting to happen. Replacing the turbo at Ksh 42,000 prevented a breakdown in the middle of the Mara that would have cost far more in recovery and lost revenue.

Outcome: Safari completed without incident, vehicle now on quarterly check-ins

Toyota Hilux Revo – Gearbox Oil Neglect Caught During Routine Service

A Migori contractor brought his 2020 Hilux Revo for an oil change. Our technician noticed a slight discolouration in the manual gearbox oil, a sign of moisture contamination from a worn breather seal. A Ksh 8,500 seal replacement and fluid flush prevented a gearbox rebuild that would have been four times the cost.

Outcome: Gearbox saved, estimated Ksh 35,000 in future repairs avoided

D-Max Head Gasket Failure Caught Early, Ksh 45,000 Saved

A Kisii farmer brought in his 2017 D-Max after noticing white smoke on cold starts. Our diagnostic revealed early-stage head gasket seepage before any mixing of coolant and oil. A timely Ksh 18,000 repair prevented what would have been a Ksh 63,000 engine rebuild had it been left another month.

Outcome: Vehicle fully recovered, now on a 3-month check-in schedule

Nissan Navara NP300 – Cracked Diff Housing Repaired, Not Replaced

A Homa Bay customer arrived with a leaking rear differential on his 2018 Navara NP300, the result of a heavy impact on a flooded murram road. Rather than sourcing a replacement diff assembly at Ksh 75,000+, our team welded and machined the cracked housing for Ksh 22,000, pressure tested it, refilled with the correct fluid, and returned the vehicle in two days.

Outcome: Still running well at 8-month follow-up, zero leaks

Mixed Fleet of 8 Vehicles Brought onto a Preventive Service Plan

A local NGO operating Toyota Prados, Mitsubishi L200s, and two D-Max pickups across Migori, Homa Bay, and Kisii came to us after three breakdowns in six weeks. We audited all eight vehicles, cleared deferred maintenance across the fleet, and built a rotating service schedule. Their unplanned downtime has dropped to zero in the five months since.

Outcome: Zero breakdowns in 5 months, 28% reduction in total repair spend

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport – Brake Fade Diagnosed Before School Run Failure

A parent in Migori town noticed a soft brake pedal on his 2019 Pajero Sport. Our inspection found heavily glazed rear brake pads, a leaking rear caliper piston seal, and brake fluid well past its recommended change interval. A full rear brake overhaul at Ksh 14,500 restored full stopping power, and peace of mind for a vehicle doing daily school runs.

Outcome: Full braking performance restored, brakes checked again at 6-month service
